PRESS INFORMATION FROM BINZ UK Silver Serves Plymouth Well The bigger the business, the more conservative you might think its management to be. So ordering an all-silver fleet is perhaps the last thing you would expect from a leading regional co-operative. Yet this is exactly the decision that Plymouth and South West Co-operative Society took, when it came to choosing the colour for their recent batch of eight new Binz vehicles. Plymouth has a tradition of being innovative and in the pre-Binz era, operated a grey fleet. When making his decision, Jack Walsh general manager drew upon previous experience within the industry in Preston. "People there were not put off by silver. It is also a question here of raising the profile, building brand awareness and uniqueness, especially when the market is re-orientating itself towards a celebration of a life" A sound strategy for the boardroom, but does it deliver where it matters - out on the streets? Walsh says yes, and points to the growth experienced by the Society's funeral service arm since the arrival of the first eight-strong Binz fleet back in 2006. "The five door hearse turns peoples heads the first time that they see it. The lines sit so naturally with those of its following limousine, making for something of a natural progression about a cortege made up of Binz vehicles" Walsh admits to being a long-standing admirer of the marque. "I remember being first shown a sketch of a Binz hearse some years back, being stunned then by the grace and elegance of the lines that had been drawn around what was already an aspirational and desirable car, and thinking then, this is the future for funeral directors when setting standards in this country". Yet looks are nothing without reliability. The Co-operative has funeral homes located around the edge of Dartmoor, from Launceston through to Barnstaple, South Molton, Torquay and Plymouth. Despite having a lot of ground to cover, availability has been exceptional. The Binz fleet is even a hit with Plymouth's rank and file. "The operatives love them - they tell us that choosing Binz was the best decision management ever made!", says Walsh.
